Beech Architects have been successful in gaining planning permission for this substantial cottage extension and new build annexe accommodation.

A development to the cottage, designated a heritage asset by the planning authority, was initially resisted by the planning team however we were able to demonstrate the potential for the site and produce a contemporary design for the new build elements but which renovated and restored the cottage and retained its in its original format. The design uses a finely detailed glass link structure to connect across to a new build extended unit providing open plan kitchen and dining space.

The new extension takes the overall format of a traditional Suffolk barn but is given a contemporary 21C finish in its materials and detailing.

The modern approach provides a spectacular east glazed wall providing far-reaching views across the Suffolk countryside whilst maintaining privacy from the public face of the dwelling. .

An original clay lump outbuilding will also be restored and utilized as part of the works.
